In K-5th grade this month we will be talking about the virtue of Respect. Showing others they are important by what you say and do.

Week 1: Who's the Boss? Showing respect for authority; Romans 13:1-7. You respect God when you show respect for people in charge.

Week 2: Actions Speak Louder. David spares Saul's life; 1 Samuel 18; 19; 24. You can show respect with your actions.

Week 3: What You Say. Taming the tongue; James 3: 9-12. You can show respect with your words.

Week 4: Chain of Command. The faith of the centurion; Matthew 8: 5-13. Show respect to God because He's in charge of everything.

Nursery and Preschool in September

Week 1: God is always ready to help. The Lion and the Bear; 1 Samuel 17:34-37

Week 3: God can help me do anything. David is Strong in Battle; 1 Samuel 18:7, 12-14
Week 4: I can praise God because He helps me. Israelites Praise God; 2 Samuel 6:1-5, 12-15

This month is K-5th grade we will talking about Peace: proving that you care more about others than winning an argument. "So let us do all we can to live in peace. And let us work hard to build each other up." Romans 14:19

Here is our weekly breakdown...
Week 1: The best way to stop a fight is never to start one. Principle of Peace; Proverbs 17:14.

Week 2: Making peace doesn't make you weak. Isaac's wells; Genesis 26:16-22,26-31.

Week 3: It's better to let go than to get even. Jacob and Esau meet again; Genesis 27:41-45; 32:1-21; 33:1-11.

Week 4: Just because you didn't start a fight doesn't mean you can't stop it. Abigail intervenes; 1 Samuel 25:16-35.

Week 5: Think about what God says, and it'll change you. Think about admirable things; Philippians 4:8.

Friendship For Grown-Ups

I have recently read the book Friendship for Grown-Ups, written by Lisa Whelchel, former childhood star, best known from The Facts of Life. I received this book to review for Booksneeze.com. I have never reviewed a book before so I thought this would be fun to try out. I have read one other book by Lisa Whelchel that I enjoyed so I jumped on the chance to read this one.
Friendship for Grown-ups is not a "self-help" book. Lisa Whelchel walks you through much of her life and shares her struggles with making strong friendships... and her struggles with being willing to tear down walls around her heart to really trust others with who she really is. I related to this. It is very hard for most people to put themselves out there, with all the 'baggage' we have, and really trust someone with all of it.
This is not one of those 'light-hearted, feel good' books... and it is also not one of those books you walk away from feeling worse about your issues. There were times where I felt maybe she expressed too much of what she went through... and other times where I saw myself in how she reacted.
I do recommend this book to women out there. I think the desire for a 'soul-friendship' with another women is in all of us. This book helped me see there is nothing unusual about having that desire... and that there is nothing wrong with me. LOL

Here is an activity to do for your kids this week. Write them a note/letter telling them at least one reason you love them. Then read it to them. This would also be a good thing to hold on to, so your child will be able to read it again and again as they get older.

This month is K-5th grade we will be talking on the virtue of Patience- waiting until later for what you want now. This is something we all need help with! We live in a world that needs and wants that instant gratification. God is so good and patient with us! He is patient enough to keep trying to instill in us patience.

Here is the week to week break down.

Week 1: Esau and the birthright- Genesis 25:24-34: If you don't wait, it could cost you.

Week 2: The golden calf- Exodus 19:2-8; 32:1-7, 15-24, 30-34: Don't get tired of doing the right thing.

Week 3: The fall of Jericho- Joshua 3:1-14; 6;1-20: Don't miss out because you think you can't wait.

Week 4: A principle of patience- Proverbs 15:18: If you don't wait, it could hurt others.

Week 5: Faith Skill- Prayer (public and private)- James 5:13; 1Thess. 5:17; Romans 8:26: Take prayer out of the box.

Our Memory Verse this month: "The end of a matter is better than its beginning. So it's better to be patient than proud." Ecclesiastes 7:8

This month we are asking the children this "Who is your friend?" "Jesus is my good friend!"
Jesus truly is the greatest friend we will ever have! He is with us, He hears us, He loves us!
Here is the breakdown week to week.
Week 1: Easter Sunday! The Lords' Supper and Resurrection - Matthew 26:20-30; 28:1-7. We learn that Jesus loves me!
Week 2: Mary and Martha - Luke 10:38-42. We learn that Jesus is a good friend!
Week 3: Caring for Jesus - Luke7:36-50. We learn that I love Jesus!
Week 4: A Place for Us! - John 14:1-4. We learn that Jesus wants to be with me forever!

This month we will talking about Friendship. Friendship is spending time with someone you trust and enjoy. And of course who is our greatest friend ever?!?! Jesus!
Here is a week to week breakdown for you.
Week 1: On the Road to Emmaus - Luke 24: 13-35. We learn that a true friend will love you no matter what.
Week 2: Jesus appears to Thomas - John 20:24-31. We learn that a true friend will help you believe.
Week 3: Breakfast with Jesus! - John 21:1-14. We learn that a true friend will make time for you.
Week 4: Jesus ascends to Heaven - Acts 1:3,8-11; Matthew 28:16-20. We learn that a true friend will always be your friend.

Not only are we teaching on friendship but we are teaching on the power of Jesus Christ! How he loved us so much that he died for us and three days later he rose from the dead! He promised to never leave us! Jesus is our Forever Friend!

This weekend is our final weekend talking about Honesty. I have to say, I really enjoyed this topic this month because it is something that we all face day to day. Why is it so hard to be truthful?! When we lie it doesn't just hurt us... it hurts those we care about. Lieing to someone seperates us from that person. Have you ever felt that uncomfortable tension with someone that you have lied to? Not a good feeling! It's the same with our realtionship with God... sin seperates us from Him! The wonderful thing is... God gives us a "do-over". He gives us a chance to make things right! We can confess that sin and ask for forgiveness.
Our story this weekend is on Judas' dishonesty. We are going to talk about how Judas lies so much that he lost track of what really matters. Check this story out. You can find it in John 12:3-6 and Matthew 26; 27:1-5. It is so easy to get caught up in "me" and what "I" want or need... that we will do whatever it takes to get it. Then we forget what really matters, we lose track of what that lie is costing us.

March 21st Nursery and Preschool Families

This weekend we will continue to talk to your children about how Jesus loves Everyone! We will tell them the story of when Jesus' disciples tell others about how God loves everyone! Check out this in Matthew 4:18-22; 28:16-20; John 1:35-45.
A great activity! Play follow the Leader! Then remind them that in their story the disciples followed Jesus. Remember to do fun moves; hop like frog, swim like a fish, fly like a blue bird, slither like a snake... have fun!

March 21st K-5th Grade Families

Our story this weekend will take us into the life of Zacchaeus. Where we will focus on how truthfulness builds friendships, and dishonesty tears them down.
Honesty is all about choosing to be truthful in all that we say AND do. WORDS can be honest or dishonest and so can ACTIONS. Like Zacchaeus, we will find that cheating may give us short-term gains, but in the end, long term losses. It could even cost you a relationship. And just as in the story of Zacchaeus, God offers a "do-over", a second chance to make things right, to make amends. God expects truthfulness, truthfulness in all the we SAY and DO.
Parents, check this story out then be ready to follow up with your child. The story of Zacchaeus is found in Luke 19:1-10. Then be ready to talk to your child about it! Discuss ways that you can be dishonest is your actions. (like cheating.) Then discuss what those actions can do to hurt relationships.

March Week 1 for Nursery and Preschool

Hello Parents!
Our Focus this month for our Nursery and Preschoolers is that God Loves Everyone!
Jesus wants to be our Forever Friend! What an amazing statement! Can you imagine how these simple truths can help to shape you child's life and how they view God. This is the core of teaching them that they can have a relationship with Jesus just as they have a relationship with you.
For this first weekend in March we will be sharing the story of the Women at the Well (John 4:1-26). In this story... We have a women that no one really likes... she's made mistakes... Jesus finds her at the well and talks to her, he tells her about God... He tells her that God loves her. This story not only shares that God loves everyone, it shows us that we should show love to everyone as well.
A great activity for you and your child. All you need is paper, crayons, and heat stickers. (Have fun, do the activity with your child!) Ask your child to draw people that he/she loves. Then let them put heart stickers on their paper. While you two are doing the activity talk to your child about who they are drawing, ask them what or why they love these people. (Be sure to talk about your picture too!)

Hello Parents!
I am really excited about this month for a couple reasons... one being our Family Fuel service! For those of you who don't know what this service is, Fuel is a a time for you and your children to come to church together! We have praise and worship together, a Bible lesson, games, skits..... and FUN! This is one way we at Central want to partner with you the parent. The other reason I am excited about this month is our Focus this month is Honesty. This is a big topic because the world teaches us that it is ok to tell that little "white" lie... and that it's ok to lie to get what you want or need.
God on the other hand... He tells us in no uncertain terms not to lie or to take what's not ours (Exodus 20:15-16). "There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him" (Proverbs 6:16-19)... "haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush to evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.... (consider how many items on that list relate to deceit!)

For our first weekend in March we will be talking about when Joseph's brothers lied to Jacob.
Let me encourage you this week to read this story with you child and talk about how Joseph's brothers were not honest. Talk about who was hurt by those lies.
A great illustration of dishonesty is a spider web. When we lie to one person... we may have to lie to cover up the first lie... and then have to lie again to cover up that lie... and so on... until we are caught up in a huge tangled web of lies and deceit... and to undo it is hard... and messy... and it doesn't just hurt us... it hurts those around us... those people we should care about the most!

In March your child will be learning about how Jesus loves everyone!
We will be going though Bible stories that talk about how Jesus loves everyone, that Jesus loves us when we do something wrong, that Everyone needs Jesus, and that Everyone can praise Jesus! This is going to be a fun month for your children! Stay tuned for the stories week by week... and activities you can do with your baby though preschooler.

Each week your child will be learning that when you're not truthful, you hurt the people you should care about most, that lying to hurt someone else really hurts You, that truthfulness builds friendships, dishonesty tears them down, and that you can lie so much you forget what matters.
